Dr. Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa


From migrant worker to outstanding neurosurgeon


At age 19 risking arrest and deportation he decided to cross into the US and ended up working in California corn fields. He spent two years at San Joaquin Delta College continuing working in the afternoon.  He applied and got accepted to the University of California, to later go to Harvard Medical School.  Today, Quinones-Hinojosa specializes in brain surgery operating about 250 brain tumors every year.


"Alfredo is an outstanding surgeon," says the head of neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Medicine.


Now a US citizen Dr. Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa says "The American dream is the ability to give back when you are so privileged to be able to do what I do. That to me is the American dream".
